counterparty_type identifies the geographic location of the counterparty's bank account. It does not indicate the currency of the transaction. To specify the destination currency, set asset_type_id on the counterparty. See Asset Type Id (Currency) for details.
Local fiat counterparties are used when customers want to do payments on local payment rails for a given jurisdiciton or country.
These counterparty types can also be sent payments using SWIFT if the source account being used is in FIAT_MAINNET_USD.
